Weee…. I am flying…

I just came back from Indonesia a week ago after a long and wonderful holiday. Despite the flight itself, which I can only summarise as a little bit hellish, to say the least… I have to say that it was quite a successful holiday. Not only that I got to celebrate my baby brother’s engagement party, but also that I could enjoy a lot of food that I could not have when I am here. I am pretty sure now that I am back, my weight scale would not be happy to see me on it.

LOL. Worth it.

Our typical dinner of five… D;

Anyway… I did not bring my WIP with me *gasp* *shockhorror*.

I know.

But here’s a thing… I have a stockpile of stash back there in Indonesia as well as here in the UK. I was thinking of using those stash to make something too, instead of letting them rot there. BUT, unfortunately (or fortunately? I am not sure about this one), the holiday was so awesome, I didn’t have time to go through my stash over there and do something about it.

I have a little niece, remember? She is now a year old, and she could now tease people. My DH said that teasing people must be in my gene because he could see everybody in my family is very good at it.

Ah… Back to WIP… This is what we’ve got so far…

In The Flood

Enjoying a breezy but sunny day in Norwich, makes me very grateful. The news have brought home stories about hurricanes and floods everywhere in the world. It reminds me when I found myself trapped in a building because of the flood.

It was April 2004. I remember because… who can ever forget something so horrible like that?

I was supposed to be home, but I was on campus at that time because I was waiting for my boyfriend then to finish his class. From the eighth floor of the building, I could see the rain pouring outside, and one or two students went back in because they said they could not reach their vehicle on the parking area. In a matter of minutes water has gone up to our ankles.

It got darker outside, and my ex’s class finished but by then even more students stayed in because it was impossible to access the ground floor. We were trapped inside.

The university people decided to keep the air conditioning, and electricity on our floor on. But that’s all they could do. Nobody could get in to rescue us, nor can they get us food. Yes… no food. At all.

Some boys took the chance to hunt and gather, but most food shacks and eateries near our uni has closed. I assumed they closed earlier that that because of the rain and the flood. I can’t remember much what we did to pass the time, but I did remember one thing that night that change my attitude towards everything. I knew at that time what hunger is.

It wasn’t quite a starvation. But I knew what hunger was, and I remember it until today because that day I swore that I would never… ever… ever… take food for granted.

Most of the flood has gone by midday the next day, and I went back to my boarding house and find a devastation. It smells, and dirty. And some of my clothes were missing. It was horrible.

And it was just ONE night. And I still had a place to come home to.

I was lucky. But many people today aren’t as lucky as I was. Thousands of people lost their lives in South Asia (India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh), because a massive flood has swept over the area. Many people lost their property and livelihood in the US because of the hurricane Harvey. And the hurricane Irma is coming to the Caribbean.

People… please be safe as much as you are. And my thoughts are with all of you.

Nightmare Week

With the projects almost over, and new baby project on the needles, you would have thought last week would be an awesome one. I thought so. And I thought wrong.

Unfortunately, there is no other words to explain what happened last week except that it was a total nightmare. I think the fact I could make some knitting progress could be called a miracle. I am not being hyperbolic or anything…

what a weird lighting… not at all looking like my project -_-”

First of all, my husband was ill. Not just the sort of “slightly under the weather” ill that would disappear after a warm cuppa and a nice cuddle while watching Bones re-run, it was an all out sick. I was considering calling 999 to get him taken to the A&E but he refused. Being British, he thought that it was not a life or death situation, and he did not want to cause an unnecessary trouble for the doctors and nurses in the hospital.

I know, right? It doesn’t make sense, but I had my phone in hand, so if he did pass out, I would definitely dial the emergency. But he didn’t pass out… unfortunately it also means that he would have to endure all the discomfort the whole night.

Obviously, he didn’t go to work the next day.

I wasn’t tiptop myself. I apologise in advance if this is a slightly uncomfortable feminine thing to talk about. But you know that sometimes, just before that time of the month, you would have that period of time when everything just go wrong and you would have to endure the whole week of migraine. Well… yes… that was the exact week I was talking about.

one down… five to go…

So, last week, it was almost impossible to enjoy sitting and knitting. I barely have time to breathe. Both of us were cranky, and stuck together because none of us were fit enough to go out unless when it is time to get some food. But then again, we wanted to avoid take away food as much as possible, as it was probably what set up DH’s illness.

Aaaanyway… Hopefully this week things get better. I can’t handle another week like last one… not in near future.

Yarn. Really?

I wonder how many of you know about this thing called Daily Prompt… Apparently it has been there for awhile, but I just heard about it few days ago. I am still not very sure what it is about, but I think it is something rather fun to participate in.

Basically this Daily Post blog, would make a prompt word for the day, and we respond to the word by writing a post about it… or whatever we do to interpret that word. I have been eyeing the list of words, but I wasn’t sure about what to write about those… until today.

The word is apparently… Yarn! I mean… Really? I thought this is definitely a sign that I will have to start participating in this thing… How can I not respond?

That’s is practically my favourite word after “FOOD”. However, after five minutes staring at my monitor without producing any post, I realised that liking something and writing about that particular thing is not necessarily go hand in hand. How do I interpret yarn anyway?

I like yarn shopping. I have a yarn in my lap right now. In fact, I have a huge stash of yarn which I am sure will outlive me if I don’t start controlling my yarn shopping habit. I can make stuff out of yarn, and make some pretty awesome stuff too… and I can write about the things I made from those yarns.

But, writing about yarn… or interpreting yarn…

All I know is that if you pull it the wrong way, thing could be a little bit messy with yarn. I am a knitter… not a philosopher…
